Sustainable legacy – sustainable future

Responsible business based on the values of sustainable development has been one of Vieser’s cornerstones since its early days in 1973. Sustainability has now been made a strategic spearhead project at Vieser, and our current commitment to sustainability is more solid than ever.

An uncompromising, long-term approach

“Vieser was born in 1973 to solve a concrete problem in the built environment: cast iron floor drains were prone to rusting, and when they leaked, they caused water damage. This led to the need for premature repairs and reconstruction. Vieser’s floor drains were the answer to that problem. They help prevent water damage and thus lengthen the life cycle of buildings,” says Vieser’s CEO Annika Jyllilä-Vertigans.

“The will is clear. Sustainability is important to us and we want to develop in it further. There is plenty of work to be done, but we are well on our way,” says Janina Ollberg Head of Portfolio, Supply Chain & Sustainability.

Responsibility built into every aspect of our operations

For us, sustainability is concrete actions. It is about committing to long-term goals and having clear operating models throughout the business. Sustainability and profit are two equally important goals for us, and we have a solid plan to make sustainability part of the product development process and collaboration with suppliers. Our Finnish roots give us a unique edge for putting our operations on an even more sustainable footing.

“For us, the well-being of our entire value chain is everything, and we take particular care of our team’s mental and physical well-being. Another important aspect for us is to have an accurate understanding of the carbon footprint of our own operations – and to use all possible means to reduce it,” says Jyllilä-Vertigans.

Vieser’s sustainability programme

A solid foundation

  • Our company’s operations have quality and environmental certifications (ISO 9001/14001).
  • Type approvals and product certificates guaranteeing the safety, longevity and functionality of our products in wet spaces.
  • Guaranteed availability of spare parts in the long term – water traps, gratings and covers will be compatible even after 20 years.
  • The products comply with the REACH regulation – we do not use harmful chemicals in the products or in the production process.
  • Rigorous integration of sustainability into product and innovation design, materials, emissions and recyclability.
  • Production and subcontracting in Finland for shorter logistics chains and responsible, transparent business.

A more sustainable future

  • Our sustainability action programme will be continuously developed: at the initial stage, we will specify our priorities and concrete indicators to measure them, draw up environmental product declarations and disclose the carbon footprint of our products.
  • After that we will be ready to set our long-term goal for the reduction of emissions and to commit to it
  • At Vieser, sustainability is just as important as profit; both weigh 50% when decisions are made.
  • Our own sustainability goals are linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. For us, the most important of these goals are decent work and economic growth (SDG 8) and sustainable consumption and production (SDG 12)

More sustainable construction – together with the industry players

As part of the sustainability programme Vieser is an active member of Green Building Council Finland. The organisation’s mission is to help make carbon-neutral, circular solutions that promote a sustainable lifestyle a natural part of all operations in the real estate and construction sector.

“The Green Building Council is a good forum for us to unite our forces and contribute to this shared mission,” says Vieser’s CEO, Annika Jyllilä-Vertigans.
